Phase 1 of basement repair...

Yesterday was the beginning of our big basement renovation. Phase 1 included removal of the wall where the water was getting in, waterproofing that wall, digging a trench (they drilled 7 feet under our house), and installing a new sump pump.

The process was very loud, took about 8 hours, and involved several barrels of concrete, mud, and clay to be hauled from the basement (causing my house to reek of dirt) - but it is the hardest part of this process so we are glad it is finally done.

The good news is that we now have a life time guarantee for the work, so we know if something does happen the repair will be completely on their dime.

The bad news is that we learned that the previous owners had put panel walls on top of 40 year old rotting drywall which all needs to be removed because it could very well be making us sick.

Now we have a dehumidifier on drying out the new concrete floor, and we will continue the process of removing and replacing walls this weekend.

In the mean time I am actively planning out paint colors and decor for the room, as we have decided to turn it into a play room instead of a guest room.
